1. Jagte Raho.: Jagte Raho is
a masterpiece by ‘Raj Kapoor’. Jago Mohan Pyare Jago
is the song which inspires us to fight against the odds of corrupt
social norms, where the corrupt and powerful community dictates the terms of
life. In the entire movie the protagonist tries to escape from the so called custodians
of our society for trying to quench his thrust, which he is unable to, He is
believed to be thief. To escape this predicament he witnesses the murkier side
of this world in the flats he hides. Finally he gathers the courage to face them.
The film ends on a positive note. The film won the Crystal Globe Grand Prix at the Karly Vary International Film festival in 1957 but flopped badly like his other master
piece ‘Mera naam Joker’ in India.
Do Bhiga Zameen: This is one of
the greatest works of’ Bimal Roy’. This is a movie of exploitation by
a Zamindari System. Where the licentious Zamindars exploit the peasants by
giving them the debt traps and thereby exploit the poor peasants to grab their
land. Do Bigha Zamin is about a
poor farmer who gets entangled in the web of deceit. He refused to sell his small land holding, and
their by served with a court order to pay the Zamindar, Rs
safeguard the land he tries to earn so hard by doing a job rickshaw puller.
Would he be able to safeguard his land?
The role performed by Balraj Sahani was astounding and historical. The movie
received a medium success. It was the first Indian film to win the International prize at the Cannes Film Festival, after Neecha Nagar.
Pather Panchali : This is a masterpiece
made by Satyajit Ray. It is a story of the Brahmin family of a Bengal who
struggled hard to meet the ends. This is a movie where the grieved parents lost
their daughter to poverty and lack of medical facilities. The death of Durga
and throwing of necklace in the pond in the well are the heartening moments of
the move. The unique chemistry between the siblings to enjoy life in poverty,
is the added value to enlighten us. The emotions aroused by the events of ‘Pather Panchali’ are authentic and real, not the contrived by-products of manipulations
of fake audience. It won India’s National Film Award for best feature Film in 1955, the
Best Human Document award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival, and several other
awards, establishing Ray as one of the country’s most distinguished filmmakers.
